Eyescream Gothic Jewelry has been a labor of love for some time now. Constantly designing and creating original & lavish jewelry collections.
I have been crafting jewelry for over 26 years, & started being drawn to jewelry designs and stones at a young age. I've always known that being in the arts was what I wanted to do with my life, and have never not known a time that I haven't been creating. Growing up, my Grandparents encouraged me with art classes & hours & hours of craft making & music. By the age of three, I began crafting ornaments with Gert my Grandma and selling them in the local Bazaar. I later moved on to drawing, cartooning, painting & ceramics, all the while singing and trying out different instruments.
My grandmother had a beautiful collection of costume jewelry... some pieces from the old Chicago Opera House. I accredit my Jewelry fixation & desire to adorn oneself... from spending many hours going through my grandmother's costume and antique jewelry. I would Literally spend hours every visit, going through her jewelry boxes. As I got older, she would pull out a new jewelry box that I wasn't allowed to see previously. So every year there was always some new bejewelled wonder awaiting my gaze. I owe so much to my Grandparents. They were literally my guardians in art. Without them, my life would not have been so full. Although they have both passed on now, I still feel a strong connection to them and want to continue to make them proud by doing what I love & loving what I do.
As I went off to school at the Art Institute of Chicago, I furthered my studies in Metals, Enameling, Performance Art, Sound, Ceramics, & Watercolor. My jobs in college took me in new directions as well. As a Film projectionist for Avant Garde Film & Art History classes, Assistant Carpenter, Assistant Draftsman & Artist for a Printmaking company, Jewelry maker, Florist, Bead store worker, display designer & so on. Later I took courses in Bronze casting & Lost Wax Cast. I had a short stint teaching Metals & wire work. Although I enjoyed teaching, I still love learning new things as well & striving to come up with new techniques & enhance the skills I have already acquired.
Touching on just a few techniques and concepts...
Scrimshaw: A new medium for Eyescream but a timeless art of scribing & etching on Bone or fossil. India ink & oils buffed deep inside drawn crevices.
Steampunkery: Vintage components mixed with modern embellishments, presented in a tantalizing array of futuristic familiarity.
Resin: Combining my photography, acrylic paintings & drawings and digitally altering some of the works, printed or cut miniatures, hand painted & set into ornate frames, embeded with tiny trinkets, sometimes specialty hand mixed mica accents for flash, or Vintage Ephemera, components are then sealed. Creating Altered Art Collage iconic Talismans.
Frames: Created in Mixed media, Ornate stamped frames, wrapped Filigree clusters, handmade frames of Polymer or Fine Silver. Frames are utelized in Resin work as well as cameo reflections.
Wire: Hand formed original wired & encrusted in stones, pearls & glass... creations of bats, dragonflies, butterflies, scrollwork, Moons & other whims of fancy.
Torched: Hand pierced, hammered, rolled, formed, silver soldered, torched Sterling silver & stone creations.
ACS / Art Clay Silver / PMC / Fine Silver: Detailed creations crafted in Fine Silver, carved, impressions from hand made custom molds & one of a kind hand carved stamps, special stones set, antiqued, one of a kind.
Gothic Victorian Nouveau: call it what you will, but reflections of past brought into the future via replica stampings & filigrees used from vintage die cuts from the turn of the century. Embellished cluster wraps, Antiqued, drilled, wired together to form personal Mandalas.
Extra Materials: We use the finest Stone, Pearl, metal & glass. We prefer Fossil, Recycled, found object or Vintage over new for Leather & bone creations.
Eyescream Gothic Jewelry designs are achieved by wiring, torching, firing, piercing, hammering, rolling, antiquing, embellishing, molds, pushing clay, carving, casting, resin setting, etching on bone for scrimshaw, painting, printing, photographing, digital art processes, altered art collage the list is long as I love to create in many art forms and supplies. Eyescream is committed to creating Original work using only the best, hand-picked materials.
There is something that I connect with on a deeper level... when I am crafting a talisman, or creating some new art piece. I revel in the whole tactile experience, and know I am doing Exactly what I Should be doing in life. Working almost constantly, Eyescream Jewelry is always evolving... Life is a work in progress...
"I really love what I do, & feel that each creation has a destiny of its own. When the right person comes along & connects with one of my pieces... it is so magical. I feel that each piece was created for that One person, even if I've never met them before, they are connected."
